I started doing embroidery way back in 2018 to cope with issues regarding my mental health. I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and it’s the kind that affects your relationships amongst other things. Embroidery became my way of self-inquiry. It was time away from my own mind. Back then it was crowded there. When I'm stitching, I'm connecting to my soul, to the depths of it. It's my meditation and my inexpensive therapy for wellness. The slow and steady progress of embroidery is what draws me to it. As I have struggles with my mental health, daily small wins go a long way. Kind of like embroidery.
I founded an embroidery group way back 2018 and now we have about 1,000 members. I would very much like to introduce BAFI to them so BAFI can help them further their craft just like you guys did for me. BAFI champions science and art. Art and science are both human attempts to understand and describe the world around us. I believe that if we start treating these two philosophies as one and the same, we would have a better understanding of why we are here and where we are going as a species.
BAFI’s Art Mart was recommended to me by a good friend and colleague. At that time, I was still trying to figure “this” out but I knew that this [art] is something I want to do for the rest of my life and it seems like BGC Art Mart was just the right avenue for me to showcase my art to a wider audience. The Holiday Crafts Weekend was [also] a lot of fun! I enjoyed that very much but I also learned valuable lessons from it. One, that I have to be prepared and I have to think 10 steps ahead. Two, there are no do-overs on live so you have to have a clear road map of the program in your mind and stick to that.
[If I can talk to my younger self], I will tell her the only person you should not disappoint is yourself. Everything will fall into its proper place at the right time and at the right place. So, go ahead and pursue whatever it is that’s in your heart. That is already an art form in itself.
